Library Accounts and Circulation Service

Library Accounts and Resource Access

A library account is automatically created for students based upon their enrollment status. A valid MavCard ID is required for checking out materials.

Students will use their 8-digit NU ID number for access to the library's electronic resources from off-campus. Students, faculty, and staff may request their NU ID number from the Registration and Records Office via the online form.

Renew Materials

To renew books online, go to My Library Account and enter your 8-digit NU ID number and password (UNO email & blackboard) to access your Library account. If it is your first time logging in you'll need to click on the "Set/reset password" link. From your account page you will choose "renew items". Two renewals are allowed if no holds or recalls have been placed on the item.  Overdue items may not be renewed online.

Holds

Those with current library accounts may place a hold on any circulating item, whether it is checked in or out. Holds may be placed via the "Request Item" button on the item's record page in the library catalog. Holds may not be placed by phone.

Individuals who request holds will be notified via email when the item is available for pickup at the Main Service Desk. Items will be held for one week.

Recalls

All currently registered University of Nebraska faculty, students and staff may request to recall circulating items that are currently checked out. Recall requests can be made in person at the Main Service Desk or by phone. Requesters will be notified via email when the item is available for pickup. Recalled items are held for pickup at the Main Service Desk for one week.

Library items not eligible to be recalled have the status of: lost, missing, billed, in the Reserve collection, charged out to Interlibrary Loan, at the bindery, or being mended.

The current borrower will receive a recall notice with the new due date. Current borrowers will have a minimum use of 14 days for each item. Recalled items are due back in the library within five days of the new due date. Borrowers who fail to comply with recall requests are fined $5.00 plus $.40 per day if the recalled item is not returned to the library within the specified time period.

Searches

Individuals who are unable to locate items in the library may request a search. The request must be made in person at the Main Service Desk. When the requested item is found, the requester is notified via email and the item will be held for pickup at the Main Service Desk for one week.

Claims Returned

When a borrower believes he/she has returned an item that circulation records still show as being checked out, the borrower may file a claims returned. Library staff will search for the item in question. If the item is found, the borrower's account will be cleared of all fees and charges. If the item is not found, the borrower will be charged replacement and processing fees.  A claims returned request may be initiated by phone or in person at the Main Service Desk.

For additional information, contact the Main Service Desk at 402-554-3206, or via email
