eBooks -- How to Find and Download

Instructions for finding and downloading e-books from various vendors.

Introduction

In order to download EBSCO eBooks, you must have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer. You will also need to use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer an eBook to a supported portable eReader device.

Adobe Digital Editions is a free download available at the link below.

Searching, Reading, and Downloading EBSCO eBooks

This tutorial demonstrates how to search for eBooks and read them online using the eBook Viewer.

Checkout and Download eBooks to Your Computer

To checkout and download eBooks to your computer:

  1. Search EBSCOhost for eBook titles of interest.
  2. Select the book that you would like to read by clicking on “Download This eBook (Offline)” in the result list
  3. Select a Checkout Period and click “Checkout & Download”
  4. When the File Download box opens, select “Open” and the eBook opens in Adobe® Digital Editions.

Printing and saving EBSCO eBook pages as a PDF

Depending on publisher-specified limits, up to 100 pages of an EBSCO eBook can be printed, saved or emailed as a PDF file (per user) from within the eBook viewer to be printed at a later time.

Notes:

  • Some titles may not allow for printing due to individual publisher-specified limits.
  • The number of pages may vary depending on individual publisher-specified limits.
  • If you have reached your printing limit, the option to print or save eBook pages will be temporarily unavailable.

Print

Depending on publisher-specified limits, up to 100 pages of an EBSCO eBook can be printed, saved or emailed as a PDF file (per user) from within the eBook viewer to be printed at a later time.

To print eBook pages:

  1. Open the eBook in the eBook Full Text viewer.
  2. Go to the first page of the section of pages you would like to print and click the Print Pages in the tools menu above.

The Print Pages to PDF menu is displayed.

 

 

1. Select to include in the PDF:

  • Current Page: Save only the page you are viewing.
  • Current Page and the next XX pages: Enter the number of pages (up to the Page Limit indicated in the box above) in the field provided.
  • This Section: Select to save the entire section or chapter of the eBook. (If available to select)

 

2. Click Print PDF to open your browser's Print dialog box.

 

3. Configure your print settings and click OK to print your pages.

If you have downloaded an EBSCO eBook and are viewing it in Adobe Digital Editions, eBook pages can be printed by going to the File menu and selecting Print. Any publisher-specified page printing limits are enforced by Digital Editions.

Things to remember when printing: 

  • Some titles may not allow for printing due to individual publisher-specified limits.
  • The number of pages may vary depending on individual publisher-specified limits.
  • If you have reached your printing limit, the option to print or save eBook pages will be temporarily unavailable.

Downloading the EBSCO eBooks mobile app

Download the EBSCO eBooks app for iOS and Android devices from:

To find UNO in the App:
  1. Open the app on your device and enter your Adobe ID and password and tap the Authorize button.

  2. Tap Find Books.

  3. Select USA from the drop-down menu and then select your Nebraska.

  4. Select UNO Criss Library from the list of available libraries displayed.

Enter your EBSCO login values (user ID and password, patron ID, etc.) and tap Login.


Search for eBooks

To search for eBooks in the app:

  1. Tap Find Books in the menu at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Enter terms in the search box and tap the magnifying glass.

    Or

    Select a category from the Browse box or a title from one of the available carousels below.

Tap a Download link for a title you would like to download.


Downloading an eBook

To download an eBook in the mobile app:

  1. Tap the Download (Offline) link for an eBook you would like to download to your device.

  2. Login to your personal My EBSCOhost folder account or select Create a new Account, to create a new one.

  3. Select a checkout period from the drop-down menu and tap Checkout & Download.

    The title downloads to your device.

  4. Tap to read the eBook or continue searching for more titles to download.
