UNO Criss Library Creative Production Lab Policies: Large Format Printing

A complete collection of all patron-facing policies concerning the use and access to the CPL.

Large Format Printing

CPL Large Format Printing services are only available for UNO students, faculty, and staff for academic, non-personal projects. Output must be associated with an active UNO class, graduation-required portfolio, official UNO sponsored event, or recognized research presentation on behalf of a UNO department. Requests for prints must be able to be associated with a UNO ID number or cost-center.

CEC partners cannot use the large format printer unless the print is on behalf of a UNO academic department or event and associated directly to a department cost center.

All large format prints are processed on our 2018 Epson SureColor P8000 Designer Edition Printer. All requests are printed on rolled Epson Enhanced Matte paper (10.3mil, 192gsm) available in 24 inch, 36 inch, or 44 inch widths. A small amount of excess paper may be left beyond a file’s requested or designed size that will incur cost and must be trimmed by the patron. CPL facilities can accommodate trimming of paper up to 40” in length.

Prints made on our Epson Large Format printer must be larger than 13" x 19" and can be no larger than 43.5" x 72".

Patrons should default to a minimum 300 dpi, non-editable, PDF file for request submission. Files submitted in other formats (JPG, PNG, TIFF, or TGA) may lack print sizing data or correct color profiles, but are still printable at request. All files will be opened in, and printed from, Adobe Photoshop in CMYK preview mode. CPL staff will not print from editable file formats (PSD, DOCX, PPTX, etc) as this may result in unintended alteration of the file prior to printing. For help in preparing files for printing, CPL computers and one on one aid is available.

The P8000 can accommodate patron provided sheet media 13” x 19” and larger. Flat media up to 1.5mm thick can be top loaded into the printer for fine art papers or poster board. Patrons must know the source and trade-name of the provided media. Media must meet minimum weight and density requirements, in addition to being lint and moisture-free. Non-commercial hand-made papers are not accepted at this time. Appointments for sheet media printing can be made by email, and are subject to approval on inspection of provided media by the current CPL supervisor.
