On May 31, 2020, the first astronauts to launch from the United States since the end of the NASA space shuttle program in 2011 lifted off in the Endeavour, a privately-contracted capsule built by SpaceX. It marked the first time in history that a private company had flown astronauts to orbit. On August 3, 2020, the Crew Dragon spaceship successfully landed in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.
