UNO Gender and Sexuality Resource Center

Mission

The mission of the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center is to foster and promote equity, access, and inclusion for all genders and sexualities through education, resources, advocacy, and activism. This office provides specific programs and services for women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer, intersex, asexual, non-straight, gender non-conforming, queer and/or trans* spectrum (LGBTQIA+) peoples, and survivors of interpersonal violence in the University of Nebraska at Omaha community.

General Information

In Fall 2016, UNO will be opening the doors of the Gender and Sexuality Center, former title Common Ground, in heart of the Milo Bail Student Center. In the interim, the GSRC is housed within the Welcome Center. The GSRC will actively serve to facilitate and focus on gender and sexuality inclusion. Additionally, this office advises and supports the missions of the Gender and Sexual Orientation and Women’s Resource Center student government agencies. GSO and WRC are located in the MBSC and will be there throughout the 2015-2016 construction of the student center.

The Gender & Sexuality Resource Center welcomes and encourages people of all genders and sexualities to participate in the center’s offerings. This consciousness raising, safe space cultivates an environment of educating, advocating, and activating the local community towards equity and inclusion. The center provides collaborative support, access, advocacy, resources, and training on gender and sexuality based needs which includes, but not limited to, interpersonal and relationship violence, LGBTQ+ inclusivity and activism, womynist/feminist organizing, men and masculinities, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, being an active ally, sexual and reproductive justice, reforming policies, pay equity, and so much more.
