UNO Criss Library Creative Production Lab Policies

A complete collection of all patron-facing policies concerning the use and access to the CPL.

Usage and Priority Access

Patron Usage Policy

Access, aid, and resources operate in order of priority. We fulfill requests from the UNO community first, followed by alumni & friends, then other community members.

UNO students, faculty, staff: Full access to all services. Large format printing is available at a reduced price for projects associated with active classes, UNO activities, conferences, and other media with direct academic association. Student technology fees are our main operational budget, and student success will be given top priority for resources, time, and access to available technology.

UNO Alumni: UNO alumni can only use the CPL if they have paid dues for their UNO Alumni Association membership. They must have a login for use in the lab. Alumni will be referred to the main circulation desk to get a login. Once a login is obtained, they can have full access to all services when the current UNO community is not using them. They cannot use the large format printer unless the print is on behalf of a UNO academic department and associated directly to a department cost center. They can use the 3d printer and laser cutter, but will be placed on lower priority. They are put at the bottom of the list for 3d printing. They can use the green screen and audio booth, but may be interrupted if a student, faculty, or staff needs access to either student. They cannot make reservations at this time. They cannot check out equipment from the main desk.

Criss Library Friend: Library Friends can only use the CPL if they have paid dues for their Library Friends membership. They must have a login to use computers. Friends will be referred to the main circulation desk to get a login. Once a login is obtained, they can have full access to all services when the current UNO community is not using them. Friends can use the large format printer at the current personal printing price. They can use the 3d printer and laser cutter, but will be placed on lower priority. They can use the green screen and audio booth, but may be interrupted if a student, faculty, or staff needs access to either. They cannot make reservations at this time. They cannot check out equipment from the main desk.

Community Members: May submit a request for a 3d print and use the laser on a walk-in basis only, but we cannot help them design within the lab. Community members will be directed to external websites for help or specialty software access. They can use a community computer in the main area of the library. The main desk can assist with that. They will be put at the bottom of the priority list and we will not complete their project until all others have been completed. They may use the audio booth on a walk-in basis only, but can be interrupted if a student, faculty, or staff needs access or has a prior reservation. Due to software licensing changes, community members may be asked to use their own computer and software within the booth. Community members can use the green screen if they bring their own laptop, as retrieval of media from CPL equipment requires the ability to log in to CPL computers. They cannot make reservations at this time. They cannot check out equipment from the main desk.

CEC Partner: CEC partners (nonprofits whose company is housed in the CEC) are able to use the services in the Creative Production Lab. CEC partners can use the large format printer with prior approval for office and professional requests only. Reservations for use of equipment and spaces can be done by email.

UNMC Employee/Student: UNMC employees/students have access to the lab. They need to have a login from the main circulation desk to use the computers. Reservations will be taken by email or phone and are subject to priority approval. Large format printing is open to UNMC patrons with their .edu email address.

Military Personnel: Active military personnel are allowed full access to the facility (with current military ID.) They can request a login from the main desk, but will have to set up reservations with staff. This only pertains to active members of the military; veterans would need to sign up to be a Friend of the Library/Alumni Association member to access the facility.

The above policy outline is only applicable if UNO students are not using the facilities. If students come in to use something while a patron is using it, non-student patrons will have to be asked to come back another time. In particularly high traffic times such as prep and finals weeks, where wait queues for computer access regularly build up, the entire CPL will operate on the basis of UNO community reserved status, with student access and aid given absolute priority.
