Game Design and Development

CPL staff is available to answer questions and provide support regarding game design and development, both for video games and board games. Initial conception, prototyping, and play-testing is possible through current staff and available equipment.

Support for board game design or asset development is available on a walk-in basis for one on one consultation as time and availability permit. For in-depth consultation, patrons should request an appointment with the current CPL supervisor.

Software suites installed on CPL Macs are capable of supporting the development pipeline of video games and interactive media. All Macs have the Unity Hub and Unreal Engine installed. Patrons can login to their personal development accounts for project recall, but should prepare a portable usb hard drive or online repository for projects in-progress.

UNO community-made video games can be installed and played by patrons on the CPL arcade cabinet. The CPL arcade will operate on a PC running Windows 10 with a discrete graphics card. In addition to the standard joystick layout installed on the cabinet, two generic usb controllers are available as input devices. Additional hardware specifications are available at request.

Patrons wishing to display their work on the arcade cabinet should coordinate with the current CPL supervisor for access to the joystick input controller for testing, and other general information about the arcade. With sufficient lead time, CPL staff can help with the creation of a custom backlit marquee and screen border via our large format printing services.
